WAVEFORMS
WAVEFORMS
showcasing intersections in art, tech, and science…
The Call: Steer partnerships from across interdisciplinary fields to gather boundary-pushing media art at the second edition of WaveForms.
The Outcome: A showcase platforming dozens of world-class installations, screenings, and live performances that primed both partners and the public to celebrate new modes of cultural production.
The Impact: WaveForms catalyzed ongoing collaborations and fortified solidarity among a burgeoning transdisciplinary community.
In 2023, a coalition of cultural organizations in Greater Boston saw an opportunity to convene the region’s art, science, and technology communities. Through gathering, they sought to evolve a collective identity among the cohort while professionalizing the work of dozens of artists and technologists with a world-class showcase. The result was WaveForms, a free-to-the-public festival at the Museum of Science, highlighting adventurous media art from the region.
While at MASARY, I produced WaveForm’s second occurrence. Building on the success of year one required expanding our circle of presenting partners, transplanting the event to a new location, and reimagining our curatorial approach with a fresh open call. Within a narrow production window, I established a shared “frame” for taking decisive action while holding open space for the group’s collective intelligence to unfold. The resulting program brought together forty celebrated artists across four unique program tracks that operated independently but spoke to a cohesive vision.
